Today's Serenism is brought to you by: DeLorean.

Seren and Penny were playing with a box that was leftover from an ice cream variety pack and were pretending it was a time machine. Seren popped in Penny's doll and her doll, closed the lid, lifted the box and made "whirring" sounds as the box traveled through time.

As I was pouring my coffee, I heard the "whirring" stop, the time machine doors open, and Seren's doll exclaim, "It's the 1960s...UGH! Let's keep going!" The "whirring" began again...

Park renegade

Well, as part of my stay-cation, we took the kids to the park. There at the park was a young renegade of a child who was riding a scooter over bridges up high on the play area. Later on I heard a crash right next to me. I turned to see a pile of child and scooter at the bottom of a slide. it looked as if this renegade had ventured on down the slide while riding the scooter. The renegade got up and ventured on without remorse. This same renegade was found bringing sand up to the upper level of the play area, only to dump and kick it onto the unsuspecting adventurers below. As the renegade chastised the adventurers for leaving, Mike reminded Penny, the renegade, that this was not acceptable park behavior. ;)

Today's Serenism was a sweet Serenism...

This was a picture she drew of me today.  It isn't much to look at, as she is 5, but it spoke volumes to me this morning when she presented it.

On the surface, it looks like a scribbled stick figure wearing a dress, which was drawn with all of the wrong colors.  But, what I don't see in the picture is my padding (believe me, I have plenty of it!) or my glasses.  What I do see is a woman with a desirable figure, who is stylish, and well put together.  That is not how I see myself, but apparently, that is how she sees me.  How sweet.  It is a rare gift to be able to have the chance to look at one's self and see the person that their children see, which is often who their children aspire to be.  Well, Seren, I aspire to be that woman you admire as well.  It warms my heart to know that, at least in your eyes, I have succeeded!

This morning's Serenism is brought to you by Crayola:

Seren: Daddy, can I please get my own BIG coloring book so I can color in it?
Daddy: You mean the coloring book that was one of the items I took away because you didn't clean your room yesterday?  Give me one good reason why I should give it back to you.
Seren pleads:  Well, Daddy, I have crayons that are waiting to be colored with!

Seren got her coloring book.

Tonight's Penny Thought is brought to you by a stork:

Penny: Mommy, Xanderman came from the baby shower, right?
Mommy thinks to self:  If they all were gifts from their respective baby showers, did they come with gift receipts???  I think I'm beyond the 90 day timeframe for returns...

The Serenism of last evening is brought to you by Crest and Betty Crocker:

No, Seren was not trying to add toothpaste to her cookies, but we did find her in the kitchen with a rolling pin and a tube of toothpaste.  Stumped about how to get toothpaste from an almost empty tube, her sisters stood back waiting for Seren to throw a colossal tantrum over who had the tube or the sheer difficulty they faced to remove any gel from the tube, either of which could result in Seren clubbing them or the tube, or all with the rolling pin.  However,  our Serenity (a.k.a. Volatility) calmly took control of the situation and expertly extracted the gel from the tube of toothpaste by carefully applying pressure from the bottom of the tube to the top using the rolling pin.  What a problem solver!  Seren saved the day and everyone's teeth that night!

This afternoon's Serenism (of just a few minutes ago) is brought to you by Seren herself and her version of potty talk:

Seren's self-made joke:  Mom, what did the Poop-a-loo say to the Barf-a-lo?
Me (waiting with baited breath): What?
Seren: Hey PEE-P!  Get it?  Instead of "Dude", it's "Peep", with P-E-E!

Yesterday's Serenism is brought to you by Disney

Ok, I wasn't around to hear this one, but received the texted experience.  It went roughly like this:

Seren (in van on the ride home from school) explains to Mike in a long-winded manner that Xander is asleep.

Mike asks Seren to hand Xander his bottle.

Seren:  Daddy, I just got through telling you Xander was asleep.

Mike:  I have a lot of things going on right now and I didn't quite hear everything you said.

Seren: I know what it is, SHORT TERM MEMORY LOSS (much emphasis on the phrase).

Mike:  Why do you think that?

Seren: Because Dory on Finding Nemo has short term memory loss...

Mike: (grumbles that he's been compared to Dory on Finding Nemo).
